I have a love/hate relationship with TV. Let’s just say it’s complicated…TV that is. There are so many channels to cater to a diverse array of consumers, however most consumers don’t watch a majority of the offerings.
New services have slowly chipped away at cable TV for years with Netflix, smart TVs, Apple TV and other digital media players. But yesterday the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas kicked off with a huge announcement: Dish Network is launching Sling TV, a web-based service that will offer channels like ESPN and CNN for just $20 a month. This covers a huge gap in the current online streaming services, since many consumers won’t cut the cord with their cable because of these channels in particular.
The target audience is 18-35 year olds, who are already online, on mobile and are largely multicultural. I, for one, can’t wait to see the effect that this announcement has on the industry.
