When Francisco Costa moved to NY in 1985 from his hometown, Guarani in Minas Gerais, Brazil, he didn’t know a single word of English. But he knew a much more relevant language: fashion. And it was speaking this very fancy language that Mr. Costa made his way from his hometown of 8,000 people to Calvin Klein’s powerhouse.
