Studies compared the results of brainstorming sessions from groups and from individuals and found that individuals are faster at solving structured problems but groups are more accurate. However, this depends on the group, since “pooling ignorance” won’t get you very far. Also, individuals performed better when the task at hand is poorly structured and has more of a creative bent.
