Negative Stereotypes and Their Negative Effects On Health

A recent study published in the Journal of Social Issues found that Latinos agree with negative stereotypes about themselves at a higher rate than the non-Hispanic white population. “Somewhere in their heads they are making the connection that the stereotype is Latino, I am Latino, and therefore I am the stereotype.” As marketers, let’s be more cautious as to how we depict our consumers, knowing that positive and negative depictions may become the accepted reality for many.
