Southwest Airlines’ New Cause

In April 2014, Southwest announced a partnership with the Project for Public Spaces in which they would transform – or activate – public squares and plazas around the nation in “one of its most ambitious philanthropic initiatives to date.” While the discipline of place-making at first seems at odds with a blue-chip airline like SWA, the company saw a grassroots cause that blends well with its culture and even went as far as calling place-making “the new environmentalism.” The first projects took place in the cities of Detroit, Providence and San Antonio, with more to follow.See the full article here.
