Brands and Instant Messaging

WhatsApp’s homepage and blog clearly spell out why they don’t sell ads. That leaves us wondering which IM client has brand space ready for activity. Besides Snapchat, the obvious new messaging app brands are jumping on for its organic influence, we can confidently say that not many other choices are left if the objective is having “real influence” without a massive data privacy headache. So the crowded messaging app category is quickly splitting. Snapchat has others like Wikr, Clipchat, Squawk and Silent Circle out after the same “photo sharing and chatting with friends without (much) of a chance those pictures show up later when applying for a job” space. Maybe brands should be on the look out for the next split with better organic opportunities.
