Blacktino. Since its release two years ago, Aaron Hughes’ movie Blacktino has brought new attention to the diversity within diversity, and how people identify themselves: Am I African-American? Or am I Latino? Or how about both? This process of identification is something that more and more people are interested in exploring and expressing, as evidenced by Soledad O’Brien’s recent documentary Black In America. Maybe this will lead to the recognition that not all Hispanic people are the same, just as not all white people are the same. The census options show that you can be White and Hispanic, but why not Black and Hispanic?
