The death of the McMansion? Some people insist they need a chateau to live comfortably while others believe that 300 square feet is sufficient. Size and proportion. It’s a century-old debate. So why is there such a great difference of opinion? People have diverse values that they clearly define and proudly present to the world. Some people are environmentally conscious while others are part of a generation that dreams of the cookie-cutter mansion with a picket fence. Technology also plays a role in our disparity of space. What reason is there for people to buy or rent extra square footage when books, memories, favorite recipes and countless other things can be archived online? Maximizing space has become something of an art form for those who have chosen to go the smaller route. This debate is not likely to end here, but maybe what’s important is that variety is the spice of life. Dieste’s Strategic Planning Department
